Beautiful Basketry

Using Invasive Plants

Poor Man's WIllow Basket

You'll weave a basket using willow technique, and a local plant. Willow isn't so common in south east, but I found a perfect alternative: Silverthorn has comparable strength, pliability and beauty, and It's a category II invasive in Florida! With the classic skills from this workshop, you can make more baskets from willow, honeysuckle, cattail, grasses and many other plants.

Harvesting the material is a big part of the project. There is a $25 material fee, or you can work 1 hour a day before to gather the material with Cheng - 3PM-4PM at 2635 SW 35th PL, Gainesville 32608 - message her.

Let's continue the community at the laid back FOLC. Bring snack/potluck for lunch. Bring garden shear, work glove, stool/folding chair if you have some. If not no worries, we'll supply.
